Finding the Lost Sheep
Another week of festivities and another year of missionary work.
I learned a lot more of the various culture tidbits here and there. For New Years, the Mexican people like to enjoy their time with their friends and family and pray for a lot more blessings and happiness in the year to come. Like in the states, everyone gathers together for the countdown and for the new year. Unlike in the states, they eat 12 grapes, one for each month of the year, with a wish that they want. As well, instead of kissing someone at the countdown they just give everyone a hug and give gratitude for them. We didn't get to see any of that as we went back to our house early. I found this all fairly interesting, but with awkward exchanges as we met with members days after and receiving a hug or two for the first time in awhile. It felt like a Draco\Voldemort moment.
In this week we were able to talk to various people and prepare some to start thinking about making the covenant of Baptism. One of my favorite lessons this week was with someone we found that was sitting outside his house with his little daughters as they played in the rain. We got to sit and talk with him for a while and got to start sharing a brief message about miracles and faith. As we shared little thoughts and scriptures, he showed more curiosity and asked about our conversion with God and how we came to know He existed. It was nice to feel the calming nature of the presence of the Spirit as we shared our thoughts, feelings, and testimonies. From what I could tell, he seemed moved by something. We hope to continue talking with him.
We also had other opportunities to give blessings, hear the testimonies of ward members, and other shenanigans, etc. Nice times. We plan to keep enjoying our time here in Navojoa.
