Sunrise, Sunset
As I still walk the dusty paved mix of roads in Navojoa, I've noticed the beautiful sunsets of Sonora. It may be the contrast against the dry desert that I always see but the mix of deep purple and light yellow always makes me happy to be outside.
It was especially helpful when me and my new gringo companion had our bikes break down at least 6 different times in one week. The member that we usually go to fix our bikes was happy to see us every other day. It was especially fun as we were biking all across the city when one of the bike pedals snapped off. My experience as a younger kid riding a razor scooting finally came in handy. I mounted my once trusted steed and got to push off the curb of the street with one leg and dangle my foot over the only pedal I still had. All I can say is that after doing so for a few kilometers, these calves can cut diamonds.
It's been somewhat fun staying in the same area for the first time. I notice that the members usually turn to me when they say something or have a question. I can more easily lead conversations and get to show them my interest in them. It's been particularly helpful with some of the investigators we have. One person in particular doesn't have many friends and lost trust that there are good people. He gave an ecstatic response as he saw us for the first time. We biked some distance just to give him the Book of Mormon and it was clear it meant a lot more to him than a mere visit. We hope to help him progress in his newfound interest in this special book.
With my first gingo companion, we've also been able to teach an energetic 11 yr old English, Basketball, and Piano. We get to teach him in his love for learning parts of the gospel. His grandma, a recent convert, also accompanies us in lessons. I found a particular beautiful moment in teaching the plan of Salvation and talking about the Celestial Kingdom. I had a quick glimpse of how it would look seeing him there: his joyous smile radiating against the bright world we had entered. I glimpsed the eternal effects of a simple lesson as I remembered waiting in the white, holy room of the temple for a friend to pass through the veil. The following day, I taught him another important lesson as I dropped 3's left and right crippling his future basketball career.
It's been a good lil while and we hope to continue inviting people to come unto Christ.
